What to Expect on the Trail

Day 0 (October 13, 2027): Arrival in Tanzania - Transfer from Airport to Moshi
You will be welcomed at Kilimanjaro International Airport and comfortably transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Meet your lead mountain guide for a comprehensive briefing and gear check before resting for the trek ahead.
Day 1 (October 14, 2027): Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 5,380 ft to 9,350 ft | Distance: 11 km/7 miles | Hiking Time: 5-7 hours | Habitat: Rain Forest
Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, passing local villages. Hike through dense tropical rainforest on a winding trail up to Machame Camp.
Day 2 (October 15, 2027): Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Elevation: 9,350 ft to 12,500 ft | Distance: 5 km/3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-6 hours | Habitat: Heath
A shorter yet steeper trek crossing ridges with panoramic views of the plains below, Kibo peak above, and Mount Meru in the distance. Observe unique high-altitude flora like giant groundsels.
Day 3 (October 16, 2027): Shira Cave to Lava Tower down to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft down to 13,044 ft | Distance: 10 km/6 miles | Hiking Time: 6-7 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek east toward the iconic volcanic rock formation of Lava Tower, then descend through the striking Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp. Essential for high-altitude acclimatization ("climb high, sleep low").
Day 4 (October 17, 2027): Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft | Distance: 5 km/3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Begin with a thrilling climb up the non-technical but steep Great Barranco Wall, followed by rolling hills and valleys leading to Karanga Valley.
Day 5 (October 18, 2027): Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft | Distance: 4 km/2 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Connect with the Mweka Trail up to Barafu Hut, completing the Southern Circuit with multi-angle views of the summit. Rest early for midnight summit preparations.
Day 6 (October 19, 2027): Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, Descent to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft, descent to 10,065 ft | Distance: 18 km/10 miles | Hiking Time: 13-14 hours | Habitat: Arctic
Begin your midnight summit push in cold and windy conditions. Reach Stella Point for a majestic sunrise over Mawenzi Peak before continuing to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point! Descend via rocky paths to Mweka Camp.
Day 7 (October 20, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft | Distance: 10 km/6 miles | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Habitat: Rain Forest
Final descent through the lower rainforest to Mweka Gate to collect your official summit certificates before transfer back to Moshi.
