Detailed Daily Itinerary
Day 0 (November 1, 2027): Arrival in Tanzania - Transfer to Moshi
You will be warmly welcomed at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. You'll meet our lead trekking expert for a thorough pre-climb briefing and gear check before resting for the night.
Day 1 (November 2, 2027): Machame Gate to Machame Camp
- Elevation: 5,380 ft to 9,350 ft
- Distance: 11 km / 7 miles
- Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
- Habitat: Rain Forest
A scenic 1-hour drive from Moshi brings you to Machame Gate. Hike through the dense, winding rain forest trails up a ridge directly into Machame Camp.
Day 2 (November 3, 2027): Machame Camp to Shira Cave
- Elevation: 9,350 ft to 12,500 ft
- Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
- Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
- Habitat: Heath
Trek a shorter but steeper uphill path leaving the forest behind. Enjoy spectacular viewpoints overlooking the plains, Kibo peak, and Mount Meru while observing high-altitude flora like giant groundsels (Senecio kilimanjari).
Day 3 (November 4, 2027): Shira Cave via Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
- Elevation: 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft (down to 13,044 ft)
- Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
- Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
Ascend eastward toward the striking volcanic formation of Lava Tower, then descend through the striking Senecio Valley to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" profile greatly aids acclimatization.
Day 4 (November 5, 2027): Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft
- Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
- Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
Scale the non-technical but thrilling Great Barranco Wall, cross rolling valleys, and descend into Karanga Valley before a short climb up to Karanga Camp.
Day 5 (November 6, 2027): Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft
- Distance: 4 km / 2 miles
- Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
Join the Mweka Trail leading up to Barafu Hut, completing the Southern Circuit with magnificent views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Enjoy an early dinner and rest for summit night.
Day 6 (November 7, 2027): Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp
- Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft (down to 10,065 ft)
- Distance: 18 km / 10 miles
- Hiking Time: 13–14 hours
- Habitat: Arctic
Begin your alpine summit push around midnight under the stars. Pass Stella Point to catch a glorious sunrise over Mawenzi Peak before reaching Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Afterward, descend safely to Mweka Camp.
Day 7 (November 8, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft
- Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
- Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
- Habitat: Rain Forest
Complete your final descent through the forest trails to Mweka Gate, receive your official Kilimanjaro climbing certificates, and take a private transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
