The Kilimanjaro Climb – Machame Route (7 Days), famously known as the “Whiskey” route, is the most popular route on Mount Kilimanjaro. The 7-day itinerary provides optimal acclimatization compared to shorter options, making it an ideal choice for first-time and experienced climbers alike. This extra acclimatization window significantly increases your summit success rate.
What to Expect on Your Trek
Your climb will be led by expert, certified mountain guides with years of safety and leadership experience on Kilimanjaro, supported by a dedicated team of professional porters and camp crew.

Day 0 (September 24, 2027): Arrival in Tanzania - Transfer from Airport to Moshi
You will be warmly greeted and picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. You will meet our senior Kilimanjaro trekking expert for a comprehensive pre-climb briefing and gear check before resting for the night.
Day 1 (September 25, 2027): Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 5,380 ft to 9,350 ft
Distance: 11 km / 7 miles
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest
The scenic drive from Moshi to Machame Gate takes about 1 hour, passing through local villages on the lower slopes. Leaving the park gate, you trek through dense rainforest on a winding trail up a scenic ridge until you arrive at Machame Camp.
Day 2 (September 26, 2027): Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Elevation: 9,350 ft to 12,500 ft
Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Heath
A shorter but steeper day of hiking. After breakfast, you ascend uphill with sweeping viewpoints overlooking the forests below, Kibo peak above, and Mount Meru in the distance. As altitude increases, high-altitude alpine vegetation like Senecio kilimanjari and Lobelia deckenii begin to appear.
Day 3 (September 27, 2027): Shira Cave to Lava Tower down to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft down to 13,044 ft
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
We climb eastward up a high ridge and head southeast toward the imposing Lava Tower rock formation. Afterward, we descend through the remarkable Senecio Valley to Barranco Camp at 13,000 ft. This "climb high, sleep low" profile provides exceptional acclimatization benefits.
Day 4 (September 28, 2027): Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft
Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
We begin by descending into a ravine to the base of the iconic Great Barranco Wall, then scale this steep yet non-technical cliff. Crossing a series of rolling ridges and valleys, we descend into the lush Karanga Valley followed by a short climb up to Karanga Camp.
Day 5 (September 29, 2027): Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft
Distance: 4 km / 2 miles
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Leaving Karanga behind, we hit the junction connecting to the Mweka descent trail and climb the rocky ridge to Barafu Hut. Completing the Southern Circuit reveals stunning views of the summit from multiple angles. We rest and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for midnight summit push.
Day 6 (September 30, 2027): Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft, descent to 10,065 ft
Distance: 18 km / 10 miles
Hiking Time: 13-14 hours
Habitat: Arctic
Around midnight, we begin our ultimate summit push under starry skies—the most physically and mentally challenging phase of the trek. Ascending through extreme cold and wind, we reach Stella Point (18,900 ft) just in time for a magnificent sunrise over Mawenzi Peak before arriving at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Afterward, we descend directly to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7 (October 01, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate & Return to Moshi
Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest
On our final morning, we continue our descent through the lower rainforest to Mweka Gate to collect official summit certificates. Our transport vehicle will meet you at the gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi.
