Itinerary Schedule (2027 Dates)
Day 0 (September 30, 2027): Arrival in Tanzania & Airport Transfer to Moshi
You will be greeted at Kilimanjaro International Airport and privately transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Meet your lead trekking expert for a comprehensive pre-climb briefing and equipment check before resting for the night.
Day 1 (October 01, 2027): Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 5,380 ft to 9,350 ft | Distance: 11 km/7 miles | Hiking Time: 5-7 hours | Habitat: Rainforest
A short 1-hour drive from Moshi leads to Machame Gate. Ascend through the rich, dense tropical rainforest along winding ridge trails until reaching Machame Camp.
Day 2 (October 02, 2027): Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Elevation: 9,350 ft to 12,500 ft | Distance: 5 km/3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-6 hours | Habitat: Heath
A short but steep trek upward offering sweeping vistas of forest plains below, Kibo Peak above, and Mount Meru in the distance. Vegetation shifts to high-altitude specialists like giant groundsels and lobelias.
Day 3 (October 03, 2027): Shira Cave to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft (down to 13,044 ft) | Distance: 10 km/6 miles | Hiking Time: 6-7 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Trek eastward up ridges toward the striking volcanic rock formation of Lava Tower, then descend through the peculiar Senecio Forest into Barranco Valley. This high-altitude exposure provides essential acclimatization benefits.
Day 4 (October 04, 2027): Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft | Distance: 5 km/3 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Descend into the ravine before ascending the non-technical yet steep Great Barranco Wall. Traverse scenic valleys before dropping down into Karanga Valley for an afternoon rest designed to enhance acclimatization.
Day 5 (October 05, 2027): Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft | Distance: 4 km/2 miles | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Join the Mweka Trail junction leading up rocky terrain to Barafu Hut. Completing the Southern Circuit reveals stunning multiple-angle views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Enjoy an early dinner and rest ahead of midnight summit pushes.
Day 6 (October 06, 2027): Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft (descent to 10,065 ft) | Distance: 18 km/10 miles | Hiking Time: 13-14 hours | Habitat: Arctic
Begin your midnight summit push against cold alpine winds under starry skies. Pass Stella Point (18,900 ft) to witness a glorious sunrise over Mawenzi before reaching Uhuru Peak—the roof of Africa. Descend past Barafu to Mweka Camp for your final celebratory mountain dinner.
Day 7 (October 07, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate & Return to Moshi
Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft | Distance: 10 km/6 miles | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Habitat: Rainforest
Complete your final rainforest descent to Mweka Gate to collect official summit certificates, followed by a private transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
