The 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic trails on Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic views from different sides of the mountain. As a newer route, it’s an excellent choice for climbers, combining breathtaking scenery, low crowds, and a high summit success rate. This route is ideal for moderate climbers as it allows ample time for acclimatization. However, for beginners, we recommend our 8-day Lemosho route option for additional acclimatization and a more gradual ascent.

The Lemosho Route begins on the western side of Kilimanjaro at Londorossi Gate, with the trek winding through lush rainforests to the Shira Plateau over the first two days. The route continues east to the Lava Tower before descending towards Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit, ultimately summiting from Barafu Camp.

Detailed 2027 Tour Plan & Itinerary

Day 0 (October 15, 2027): Arrival in Tanzania - Transfer from Airport to Moshi
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. You will meet our expert Kilimanjaro trekking guide for a comprehensive gear check and briefing regarding your upcoming expedition, then rest for the night.

Day 1 (October 16, 2027): Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Lemosho Glades to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Elevation: 2,250 m to 2,750 m | Distance: 18 km | Hiking Time: 3 hours | Habitat: Rainforest
Drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Park Gate. From here, follow a forest track in a 4WD vehicle for about 11 km to Lemosho Glades. Walk along beautiful forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) campsite.

Day 2 (October 17, 2027): Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1
Elevation: 2,750 m to 3,500 m | Distance: 12 km | Hiking Time: 5 hours | Habitat: Moorland
The trail gradually steepens, enters the giant heather moorland zone, crosses the Shira Ridge at 3,600 m, and drops gently to Shira Camp 1 located by a scenic stream on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3 (October 18, 2027): Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2
Elevation: 3,500 m to 3,840 m | Distance: 6 km | Hiking Time: 2 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
A gentle walk across the plateau leads to Shira Camp 2 on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of optional walks are available on the plateau, making this a great acclimatization day.

Day 4 (October 19, 2027): Shira Camp 2 through Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,840 m to 4,630 m down to 3,960 m | Distance: 15 km | Hiking Time: 7 hours | Habitat: Semi-Desert
Hike east up a steep path toward the striking Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch and vital high-altitude exposure. Afterward, descend for 2 hours below the Breach Wall to Barranco Camp, nestled in a valley for a memorable sunset.

Day 5 (October 20, 2027): Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 3,960 m to 4,600 m | Distance: 9 km | Hiking Time: 8–9 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Cross the floor of the Great Barranco Valley, scale the famous Barranco Wall, and continue along the Southern Circuit path through the Karanga Valley to Barafu Hut. Enjoy early dinner, rest, and prepare for summit night.

Day 6 (October 21, 2027): Summit Day! Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,600 m to 5,895 m (down to 3,100 m) | Distance: 5 km ascent / 13 km descent | Hiking Time: 7–8 hrs ascent / 4–5 hrs descent | Habitat: Arctic
Begin your ascent around 11:30 PM through heavy scree between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers to Stella Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim. Continue along the rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Afterward, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

Day 7 (October 22, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Elevation: 3,100 m to 1,640 m | Distance: 10 km | Descent Time: 3–4 hours | Habitat: Rainforest
After a celebratory breakfast, take a scenic 3-hour hike back to Mweka Gate. Collect your gold or green summit certificates, sign the register, and transfer back to Moshi for an overdue hot shower and comfortable night.
