What to Expect on Your 2027 Expedition

Following a comfortable 4-hour drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, your ascent begins on the western side of Mt. Kilimanjaro towards the high-altitude Shira Plateau. You will journey across diverse ecological zones, ranging from lush montane forest to alpine heather and arctic ice fields.

Daily Itinerary (November 5 – November 13, 2027)

Day 0: Arrival Day (November 5, 2027) - Airport Transfer to Moshi
You will be welcomed at Kilimanjaro International Airport and comfortably transferred to your hotel in Moshi. You will meet our expert lead guide for a comprehensive pre-trek briefing and gear check before resting for the night.

Day 1 (November 6, 2027): Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Elevation: 7,742 ft to 9,498 ft
Distance: 6 km / 4 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest
Departing Moshi, we drive approximately 4 hours to Londorossi Gate for registration formalities before starting our hike through the peaceful rain forest to our first overnight camp.

Day 2 (November 7, 2027): Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft
Distance: 8 km / 5 miles
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland / Heath
We leave the rain forest behind, climbing into a rugged zone of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock. Crossing several mountain streams, we scale the Shira Ridge before gently descending into Shira 1 Camp, where you'll catch your first sweeping view of Kibo across the plateau.

Day 3 (November 8, 2027): Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut
Elevation: 11,500 ft to 13,800 ft
Distance: 11 km / 7 miles
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Moorland
We spend a full day exploring the magnificent Shira Plateau, walking eastward across moorland meadows toward Shira 2 before diverting to the quieter Moir Hut nestled beneath Lent Hills. Additional afternoon walks up Lent Hills offer wonderful altitude adjustment opportunities.

Day 4 (November 9, 2027): Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 13,800 ft to 15,200 ft (down to 13,000 ft)
Distance: 7 km / 4 miles
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
We climb a ridgeline heading southeast toward the striking Lava Tower formation (300 ft high). Afterward, we descend through the unique Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is a vital step for proper acclimatization.

Day 5 (November 10, 2027): Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley
Elevation: 13,000 ft
Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

The day starts with an exciting scramble up the famous Great Barranco Wall, followed by a trek along the undulating Southern Circuit trail leading to the scenic Karanga Valley campsite.

Day 6 (November 11, 2027): Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 15,091 ft
Distance: 4 km / 2.5 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Arctic Desert
The trail ascends steadily into the stark, windswept high alpine desert of Barafu. Our team will prepare early dinner and rest as we prepare for the midnight summit push.

Day 7 (November 12, 2027): Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft (descent to 10,065 ft)
Distance: 18 km / 11 miles
Hiking Time: 13-14 hours
Habitat: Arctic / Rain Forest
Starting around midnight, we begin our challenging final ascent under the starry sky toward Stella Point (18,900 ft) in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. From there, we continue along the crater rim to **Uhuru Peak**, the highest point in Africa. Afterward, we descend directly back to Barafu for lunch and down to Mweka Camp for our final celebration dinner on the mountain.

Day 8 (November 13, 2027): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest
On our final morning, we complete a pleasant descent through the lower rainforest to Mweka Gate, where successful climbers receive their official summit certificates. Our private transport will meet you at Mweka Village to take you back to your hotel in Moshi.
